00:00:00:00 – 00:01:09:18

Oh, it’s all right. We’ve done. We left something with you offering it. Suddenly it’s not raining anymore. Welcome to a weird episode. International episode of the RoadFS podcast. And I am Rod Pusey. In the middle, you have my partner, Jody the Greek. So. And then we have our friend Rashid Baker from Claire over in Florida. And, Lulu, I’ll have him right there.

00:01:09:18 – 00:01:29:29

I’m going to jump over here. Jody, I stoled your dumb mouse. So we’re going to do that too. That’s good. Oh, there we go. There he is right now. Wow. So this is a really weird episode of road for us because there’s four of us on here. And like, we’re all in four different locations. So we got Boise, Idaho, Greece, Florida and where are you at rain?

00:01:30:01 – 00:02:03:03

I’m in Dayton, Ohio. Never come here. There’s. oh, man. So there we are. Let’s talk about what? All things. Obviously, Jody, the big thing is, is you and your crazy trip to, the Olympics and your niece and her awesomeness. So, man, what is that like? Oh, guys, you guys, you you. Words cannot express the last 4 or 5 days it has been over the top.

00:02:03:06 – 00:02:32:04

amazing. You know, it’s like we get there the first day and it’s so full round. And, you know, my my niece is you guys saw. She is a baller. She makes things happen. And it just happened to be her husband’s birthday the first day of the tournaments. And, so she scored. So when she’s doing that big pointing in the stands and smiling, she’s actually pointing at him, wishing and happy birthday and blowing and a kiss when she lands.

00:02:32:04 – 00:03:00:02

So. And then, it was kind of funny because the day before, I was sitting next to a guy from Britain, and because Great Britain lost and he said, you know, be real. And we were playing France and he’s like, you know, be really cool. If America had one of those traditional Hollywood American stories happened at the Olympics, and then they read the last eight seconds of that game against New Zealand, it would just was it was crazy.

00:03:00:02 – 00:03:22:06

I just over the top. I mean, everybody’s crying and laughing and hugging each other. I mean, I’ll even the Aussies were hugging us. I mean, it was crazy. It was. Oh yeah, it was, it was one of the wildest things we could. All we could do is sit here in the United States and jump up and down and cheer and, you know, go to the fridge and get another drink, you know, so, well, I’m gonna have a video.

00:03:22:08 – 00:04:00:26

And I gotta say, the France, they kicked it out of the park. Everything was clean and organized. We got in and out of the stadium, and it just was. It was amazing. And everywhere I went, you know it to be by the Eiffel Tower and have the awards, parade there. And it just was it just was amazing, you know, and to be there with my brother and and my oldest son and daughter and his family and his and all his siblings and his ex, and it just it was.

00:04:00:27 – 00:04:22:28

That’s crazy cool. Yeah. So we got another event going on. We got, was it Nathan Albertson and his birthday. So happy birthday to your birthday. Happy birthday. Thank you. Yeah. He turned, 30 years old yesterday. My God, there you go. Aged 30. And you’re like, dude, that’s that’s old. so let’s talk about what’s going to happen next week.

00:04:22:29 – 00:04:49:15

We’re all going to be together in Jacksonville. Yeah, yeah. So let me tell you this. This is how big of an event this is. I’m not going home. I’m going straight from Greece to Jacksonville to be part of this event. I am so excited about this event. This is going to be fun. So all things, marine, right am I?

00:04:49:15 – 00:05:13:12

Yeah. Semi we’re talking. Don’t bring it into your heart so don’t undersell yourself. This is big. This is a big deal. This is a big yes. You know listen I’m a I’m a I’m a humble person. I know a couple of things. I’ve got a bunch of knowledge from different people in my in my life. And I just want to share some of that.

00:05:13:15 – 00:05:33:29

You know, everybody has a different way of getting from point A to point B. Yeah. So this is this is my point A to point B. and I just want to help some people out. That’s it. Really. Yep. I’m looking forward to it. I said the, everything that and all of this was put together. It was all Rashid’s idea of doing the.

00:05:34:06 – 00:05:56:08

We’ve been talking about it for a long time, doing a marine specific training since we did the, we did the launch of our marine coatings and aftercare products last year at Rashid’s shop in Jacksonville. And we’ve done a couple of events together and I first, I do all the automotive stuff, and Rashid is the he’s the boat guy.

00:05:56:14 – 00:06:26:12

And to do something this in depth is is pretty awesome. The gel coat repair, I mean from start to finish, everything you can think about or stuff you didn’t even think you needed to know about. Repairing gel coat and fiberglass is going to be in part of this class. And then to wrap it up at the end of it, having the the boat that we’re doing the work on, the owners letting, taking us out, taking everybody out on a fishing trip with the boat in the water.

00:06:26:13 – 00:06:55:27

That’s pretty healthy. That’s totally awesome. So I don’t I don’t know if anybody else has ever done that before or not, but I think that’s pretty cool. Yeah. That’s cool. Not many people do. We have signed up already. when I talked to Tommy yesterday, I want to say we had 3 or 4. we open it up to our, our existing installers, which we do that for guys that have already been through our training, if they’re coming to a different, more advanced training or they want to brush up on something or something different, we we give them a discount.

00:06:55:27 – 00:07:18:21

And for this one, we all of our guys get a 50% discount off the price of the training. Wow. That’s totally awesome. And I and I want to say there’s I want to say there’s only about ten people. I got people coming up from Saint Augustine. a lot of from here, from closure will be here. Many will be here, although we’ve got a quite a bit of people, so it’ll be good.

00:07:18:24 – 00:07:43:15

I know Brian coming from, South Carolina too, right. Yeah. He’s come in and then, Mike up in from Michigan is coming down nice. So, so because we were able to go to a training, I’ve been at a training with both of you guys. when, when, when in automotive when we were in Indianapolis. And that was just basically, Angel wax, certification on a coating, which we did some fun stuff.

00:07:43:15 – 00:08:12:07

We purposely made some high spots and then saw just how unbelievably thick that was. I mean, you could really visualize the the layers you’re putting on top of the substrate with when you did that. and then everybody there got certified on an angel wax, which is really cool. I think the, the trend we’re seeing right now in trainings where people go to them and they come away with more than, just more than just learning and more than just seeing a product.

00:08:12:07 – 00:08:34:00

Right? I mean, it can be like, hey, this is our new product or whatever, but the fact that they’re certified when they leave, they’ve used the product, they’ve talked to somebody that’s helped figure out the the whole process to put it on. That is fantastic. And then when I was out looking, I was out to the, Angel wax us dot com site, which I’m going to put that up right now.

00:08:34:00 – 00:08:54:21

I should have done that one said that, but if you go out there and you look, you can see all of the products, the marine products, there’s a lot of products out there. Holy crap. It’s amazing how many products are out there. And, you know, we you guys have got this crazy mad scientist that puts that stuff together that we’ve been able to talk to.

00:08:54:21 – 00:09:14:04

If nobody’s ever talked to him before, he’s a he’s a hoot, but he’s awesome. And just John’s amazing. That’s I tell that to people all the time is one of the one of our, one of the benefits that our installers have is we can message John the Chemist that makes the stuff we use every day and say, hey, can you make something that does this?

00:09:14:04 – 00:09:44:04

Or, I’m using this product in this environment. It’s doing this, can we make it better? And I’ve had it and I’ve he’s in Scotland. I’ve, I’ve sent him a message and I’ve had a package at my front door ten days later was an adjusted product that works better for what I’m what I need it for that that work, which I was really impressed with the last time we were with John, I sat there and within like 15 minutes he mixed up a wheel coating that.

00:09:44:06 – 00:10:04:00

And then I got whiskey. I mean, it was like the greatest nation ever. And so, you know, you guys have a lot of fun. I think that’s when everybody thinks of Angel wax. They think of you guys having a lot of fun. you’re very serious about this stuff. Here’s a good question coming in right here.

00:10:04:03 – 00:10:22:19

Yeah, that has helped a lot. Purposely making mistakes to help out a lot. And this is Tate and Trout. He was at that Indianapolis training. He’s in Colorado. also big shout out for the details of the round table, which you guys are part of. There’s a training in Colorado in September at Tate in the shop. it’s going to be, full three days.

00:10:22:19 – 00:10:43:27

It’s going to be pretty freaking awesome as well. Tatum’s awesome. I love seeing how fast he’s blown up and growing and he’s doing it the right way. He. Yeah, yeah, yeah, you really landed him. He is surrounded himself with some really, really good people. and like, we did, he did his first initial training at, at Kyle.

00:10:44:00 – 00:11:10:07

Come on, come on. Say his name wrong. Yeah, yeah. You got dropped out in, Colorado a year ago, and he was working on a car at his shop after, and he said, hey, you know, I’m doing my first angel ice coating. You want to come up to the shop and help me out? And I went out there and we we worked until three in the morning because in between polishing and coating everything, we would sit there and just talk and chat about all things life, industry, everything.

00:11:10:07 – 00:11:29:12

He’s we had a really good time and Tatum’s awesome. And then again, I take table from what I would call one of those detail nerds where he wants to dig in and he wants to dig in, and he wants to understand the the science of it as well. He doesn’t just want to know how to put it on, but he wants to understand the science of it.

00:11:29:12 – 00:11:48:28

So that’s that’s awesome. We’ve gotten to know Tate and really well, and he does have a really awesome opportunity. This training is like within an hour from the roof has training center. Yep. He’s fabulous. Kyle’s out there. There’s a bunch of really good people out there in California. Let’s shift back to Gerard. there’s a really awesome dude.

00:11:49:00 – 00:12:10:14

The president. I didn’t notice, but under Jody Rashid for vice president, I’m going to write that in I’m writing it in, man. Let’s go. Jacksonville. We’re going to learn all about boats and everything. there you go for the gold medal. And it is gold. Oh my gosh, there you go. Here it is. so Joe Keel repair is a different animal.

00:12:10:16 – 00:12:33:10

It is. Gel code is a way different animal. Here’s some Kyle cam is coming in. Good. See, brother. It is, it is different. It is not. Gel coat is the final product or it can have something over the top of it. So explain that, because I know a lot of people will ask questions when you say you painted a boat versus pure gel coat repair with some tint in it.

00:12:33:12 – 00:12:55:27

So the normal. So whenever a boat’s made gel coat is the first part that’s laid down, that’s the color of your boat. Then they layer your fiberglass and then they start building everything else from there. when I say that, I’m like, I’m going to paint a boat. I’m actually using all brick and my urethane paint. That’s what I use for painting.

00:12:56:00 – 00:13:18:05

gel coat. Joker is harder. it’s a lot more forgiving. but temperatures play a big part on it. And if you’re not in a controlled environment, it’s kind of hard to work with. And it’s something that any detailer can do. It’s just repetition. You just got to keep doing it, keep doing it, and everybody can do it.

00:13:18:05 – 00:13:39:05

If you already had the attention to detail, all I’m going to show you is how to mix the chemicals together in your solid, you know? And again, just to reiterate that that urethane paint you’re using is a marine three, you’re not going to go with Krylon or some summit from Chuck’s Auto Parts and slap it on a boat.

00:13:39:08 – 00:14:00:23

No, no. Now you do have, some master crafts like some of the the higher end boats. They will use a gel coat base when they’re flight. And then there is a clear gel coat that’s on top of that. So a lot of people don’t know that there is their gel pen that will go on a boat. you can put an additive in it and it will spray like paint.

00:14:00:26 – 00:14:25:02

Theoretically. so you do get that part also. Yeah. And there’s there’s a big comment from here. The value random or sheet of brought to the team is miserable. Probably around the world trying not to read that for the podcast. The value that Rashid have brought to the team is immeasurable. It perfectly rounds out what we’re trying to achieve, and they exemplify the standards that I’ve tried to set since I first took over.

00:14:25:02 – 00:14:43:12

I freaking love these guys. They’re awesome. And when you’re at the training, you get an extra 50% off if you can give Rasheed a kiss right on the mouth. Listen, you know, listen, I’m going to keep in mind, well, this year, Rasheed is trying to get a machine, trying to get a chemical rain. Got, you know, his his Cologne.

00:14:43:19 – 00:15:09:08

And now I want something. Clay. My turn. Yeah. And I’m thinking, I think I got my AC time. I got my Venmo. Good job. But I we’re missing Tommy this week. This week. But but we’ll, you know, we’ll be seeing you, soon. And everybody knows that Tommy is you guys have put together a super fun. You know, it’s funny because a lot of people comment to Jody and I about how much fun we have and how we work really well together.

00:15:09:14 – 00:15:28:24

And I would say the same thing about the Angel wax team, right? You guys have tons of fun. You guys work really well together. It’s always positive. Whenever I see you guys somewhere, it’s big smiles on the faces and stuff. So, you know, that’s that’s really where I think I think the I think the reason why that is, is honestly because everybody checks their ego at the door.

00:15:28:26 – 00:15:49:27

Nobody’s better than anybody else. It’s about the team, you know. And when we get together, it’s life is already stressful. You’ve got all this going on. Why make it that much more complicated? You know, when you go to these trainings and you work with the people that you like? Yeah, that and that’s the thing is like literally, you know, like you you and I talked about this in Jacksonville receipt.

00:15:49:27 – 00:16:09:22

It’s like this is what we do for work. Correct. This is not our life. Right? I mean, some of us live, breathe and eat and sleep this stuff. But at the end of the day, we’re all doing this to make a living. And because it’s fun. And why make it a pain in the ass, right? Keeping. And that’s that’s what I like about this group.

00:16:09:22 – 00:16:26:16

That’s what I like about a lot of the trainings that are going on. we, we see the people. There’s a lot of camaraderie there. You’re talking to the people after the trainings. I mean, we had really a fun time in, we were at a group as training, and Tatum needed help on a really, really cool car.

00:16:26:16 – 00:16:45:15

It was, Smokey and the bandit knock off that was sold. And we went down there and spent several hours polishing it out, and it was just a blast. I mean, we had, you know, music playing and snacks and joking around and taking funky pictures. And it was just it was super, super fun. It can be like that.

00:16:45:15 – 00:17:05:03

It doesn’t have to be a nightmare, you know? Well, yeah, it’s, it’s all about chemistry. And that’s something that you can’t fake. And people like you guys that have been in brands, in the trainings and especially people that have been the ones where me and Rasheed have been together. We feed off each other very well. We’re, we’re we have very loose structure.

00:17:05:11 – 00:17:26:10

Like you’re going to learn something. We’re going to make sure you leave with the knowledge to make the products work for you. And but you’re also you’re going to have a good time. And if you don’t, if you don’t have a good time, that’s it’s your fault. Yeah. If you’re if you’re around me, you know for sure that about 90% of the stuff that comes out of my mouth is complete and total bullshit, and the rest of it is true, but you got to figure out the ten.

00:17:26:12 – 00:17:41:29

You’re telling you something true. You know, if we’re talking about something, we say, hey guys, listen up, this is important. But then five minutes later, we’re going to have fun. We go out to dinner together, we joke around. I mean, we had a, we had a dress up day in Florida the last time I was there with Rasheed.

00:17:41:29 – 00:18:01:17

I mean, I want to we had so good. I was wearing lace. Rasheed was wearing some Nantong. It was awesome and good. All about fun. And it was it was such a cool break from the action. We helped a local guy out and that’s what it’s all about. You know, at the end of the day, that’s what it’s about.

00:18:01:17 – 00:18:18:21

So I’m super excited about this training. We’re going to hang out in and share a house with you guys. we are going to do a lot of boat training. We’re going to do some vinyl repair training. We’re going to talk about business. You get to see all these new Angel wax products, which how long is the how long is the marine line been out?

00:18:18:21 – 00:18:41:05

How many years? it’s a little over a year now. Yeah. That’s what I was thinking of when I looked at the site. So. So Brittany has been playing with that longer than that. We had. We’ve had that’s one thing before Andrew Wax launches anything, they’re going to put it out in several different environments and make sure it’s doing what it’s supposed to do before they launch the initial stuff.

00:18:41:05 – 00:19:00:28

And then it’s basically when when we have something new like that, like we’re seeing sand tested. It’s even when it’s launched a new like the people that get it first, they’re part of the R&D team. They’re part of the feedback to adjust it as needed and make it work for everybody. Yeah. And that that’s what I love about when we were there.

00:19:00:28 – 00:19:17:14

And John just mixed up this coating and said, here, try this out. I mean, it’s it’s cool to be able to do that. And we get we’re really, really lucky. Jody and I consider ourselves unbelievably lucky because there’s people that have, CRM software, but we also get our hands dirty. Even Rasheed knows if we’re ever to training.

00:19:17:14 – 00:19:39:04

We’re in there along with everybody. you gotta learn. Well, yeah, the thing about that is I love seeing the products come out and taught and using them, myself, because then I can actually, like, I know what I’m talking about, right? I can actually have some experience with and say, yes, I’ve put that coating on. This one’s a little grabby.

00:19:39:07 – 00:19:57:24

but it goes on really well. That one’s a little, you know, smoother, but it doesn’t last as long, things like that. So it’s going to be a fun to watch this and go through it with you guys. it is the other thing. August 9th, 10th and 11th. Yep. And I’m still trying to figure out how we’re going.

00:19:57:27 – 00:20:23:09

I think Sunday is going to be our fishing day. I think I’m going to get the boat sometime next week, kind of prep it before everybody gets here. So that way we’re on and off and we’re fishing. You’ll learn a lot, but we’re going to get on and off it like so when. So we had, training up in Knox’s place up in Georgia, and he kind of showed me and rain a new way of applying and coding because he thinks outside the box.

00:20:23:12 – 00:20:45:03

And then so I brought that back to Jacksonville because we have humidity and this coating does not like humidity. So we’re trying to figure it out, you know, and that’s what our R&D is. Everybody you’re learning. And so we started playing with this new way of applying it. And we’ve added some things. And I think that when people see that and you get Angel wax because Angel likes it.

00:20:45:03 – 00:21:14:14

So this new way of applying it is amazing. I can do a 25ft boat whole by myself in about 30 minutes. Wow. Off the top of one up one pad and I can use, I don’t know, 4 or 5 towels. Wow. So it’s, it’s it’s amazing. It’s amazing. Dude, I can’t wait. It’ll be fun. So, we we just we’re going to call it the Nemo sauce for right now.

00:21:14:21 – 00:21:37:13

Since rain, you know, has this product. I got my product now. Nemo sauce. I need one, so the bottle will be black, so don’t worry. You know? Oh. Yeah. So. So that’s going to be a big bottle then. So it was a big bottle from a 32 ounce bottle with eight ounces of product.

00:21:37:15 – 00:22:02:25

Oh, yeah. Yeah. I have to allow for expansion with all our stuff. Exactly. That’s the way it works. That way. It’s we’re we’re growers, not showers. Okay? We’re good. That’s right. That’s that’s my life motto since. Yeah, well, I don’t wanna talk about it anyways, but but it’ll be good. Like I said, it’s a it’s a lot. like I said, the gel coat stuff is, is really is really good.

00:22:03:00 – 00:22:18:00

I think that people should know it, especially if you’re on boats. When I started off back in 2008, I knew how to deep house. I worked at a car dealership. I had a buddy at. The dealership was like, hey, do you want to come in some boats? And I’m like, yeah, went over there and turned that process in like six months into it.

00:22:18:00 – 00:22:41:20

I’m like, you got all these holes and everything like, what do you want to try to fix them? I wouldn’t ask the right people that you know, that mentored me and help me. And then here we are, you know, years later and it is such a big moneymaker where people are missing out. The opportunity I have, there’s probably, I don’t know, ten people in Jacksonville that just do completely boats.

00:22:41:22 – 00:23:01:10

And every time I talk to now, like it’s slow and slow and like, well, are you expanding or are you doing anything else? Covid should have taught everybody to diversify, and I can guarantee I can do cushions, I can do joke, I can do fiberglass repair, I can do detailing, I can do some cars. So I’m never know where.

00:23:01:10 – 00:23:30:00

I’m just a year round busy, you know, people. And if people work and if people learn this. I went to the dealership, I did one repair for a dealership. It’s been 7 or 8 years and I do everything for them. And but you have to be willing to step outside of that, comfort box. You get a little bit dirty and figure out how to make some money because there’s a shit ton of money, there’s a ton of money, there’s a ton of boats everywhere you can make it.

00:23:30:02 – 00:23:41:04

Speaking of that, really, you were talking about before we went live. You’re talking about you’re working on some, some counts as a motor cowlings or motor. Yeah, that’s that’s actually how much I know about boats.

00:23:41:06 – 00:24:05:14

Yeah, that that’s one of them. And how much how much are you making of one? Okay, so so this is a boat we’re working on right now. We I painted it, but the fiberglass substrate is giving me issues. So now we’ve stripped it back down. We’re going to repaint it you know and it’s it’s like it’s like little things like these are just like little holes that pop out that you don’t see.

00:24:05:14 – 00:24:21:08

And then all of a sudden it becomes an issue. So we’re going to retake this thing. We’re going to repaint the whole thing one more time. That’s what we’re going to do. The holes were in the fiberglass though. Not yeah like pinholes. Yeah. They’re in the fiberglass. Let me see. I will see if I can find one. So I can see like okay.

00:24:21:14 – 00:24:41:03

So I don’t know if you can see. Let me see. Right. Right there it can you see that. Yes. Yeah. Yeah yeah yeah. It’s so it’s so small. But that’s, that’s the things that I’m getting in this boat. And we didn’t notice it when we, when we finally and when we paint it everything pops out. And then you’re like, damn it.

00:24:41:03 – 00:25:01:18

So now this is what we’re this is what we’re going to redo today and tomorrow. So, you know, when and when people come here, like when I do videos, some like that, but this is me. This is me messing up. This is me saying it. Hey, I’m not perfect, but I’ll get it right. It’s gonna take me some time, but I’m going to make sure that it’s right.

00:25:01:20 – 00:25:18:13

These motor cowlings right here, you know, these are all. See if I can get it. So this is all substance damage. I had a buddy that works at the boat club. They’ve got 180 boats, and so they’re like, hey, can you fix these? So this right here is is a year round thing where I get and these are the same motor counts.

00:25:18:13 – 00:25:42:15

It just keep getting cycled through it just keep getting cycled through. And I just keep doing the same ones. And I’m making the same amount of money every single time. You know this, this right here, 900, 900, 900. There’s six of them here, you know. But if you’re not, if you’re if you’re not willing to take that chance and try it, you’ll never make the money.

00:25:42:18 – 00:26:02:06

Right. There’s a there’s a guy I met, in India a couple weeks ago named Mike. He’s up at Mike. Mike, Mike, Mike, Mike is coming down. Yeah. And it is he he’s been doing this for years and years and years, and he’s constantly learning. And that’s the thing to to this is that you don’t. That’s what I love about I’m going to call you guys regular guys.

00:26:02:06 – 00:26:21:14

Right. You’re not prima donnas. You’re just regular guys. When you work with regular guys and you go to a training with regular people you like, Tate said. You learn that how to fix your mistakes. It’s not about being perfect. It’s about how do you fix a mistake? Because that’s the whole thing. The crack in the boat is a mistake.

00:26:21:17 – 00:26:37:25

You got to know how to fix it. If somebody gave you a brand new boat, no issues at all. And you polish it out, that’s the easy part. Yeah, I think it’s when you take a mistake. Oh my God, rain. I got high spots in this. How can I get that out? Okay, well we’re going to show you how to get that out right.

00:26:38:03 – 00:26:56:19

That’s what this is all about. And Mr. Justin Lovato good morning. Speaking of people that have come a long way and learn from their own mistakes, Justin’s awesome. He’s another just regular guy. He’s amazing I got it I got to get pads from him next week. I was supposed to get on there sometime this week, but I’ve been dealing with that pain in the ass boat in there.

00:26:56:25 – 00:27:25:10

So on down Monday. But I love Justin. But prime example this boat right here, the 2000 Mastercraft okay. Yeah I’m going to take some from that top top down. It’s going to be all great. All right. There’s $20,000 $20, all the paint job. It’ll take me a week to do. There you go. Awesome. So that’s about it is, is that when you go to these trainings, you’re not just going to learn, you’re going to learn business tips, right?

00:27:25:13 – 00:27:39:16

personal professional, someone who has the ability to fix their own mistakes. Exactly. And then that’s the thing is we’ve we were I was answering some questions on a forum this week where somebody was like, hey, it’s really slow, it’s really slow. And I’m like, are you contacting your existing customers? Are you reaching out to them with other stuff?

00:27:39:16 – 00:28:00:00

This particular gentleman has done glass coating and I’m like, you know, they have glass shelves in their home. They have they have things you can go do. Have you ever put, ceramic in the front of a microwave so the fingertips, fingerprints go. I mean, you got to think outside the box and solve the issue. And the issue is keeping a.

00:28:00:02 – 00:28:21:13

Yep. There you go. You know, I love his comment. You know, problem solving. Where are the training for that? And there are Jackson there in Jacksonville next week Jacksonville next. Yeah I was going to say that the only one that I you know, very rarely do you go to a training and purposely have somebody destroy or wreck a substrate.

00:28:21:13 – 00:28:44:06

Right. And you know Rod’s always telling young guys it’s like, look, go buy a panel and bring it home and burn through it and make your mistakes. Right. And I think a lot of times we’re too afraid to make mistakes because we’re comparing ourselves against other people and we’re like, oh, well, I should be there by now. Well, you know what?

00:28:44:08 – 00:29:13:10

You’re in chapter two or chapter three range in chapter 16, 17, 18, 19, 20. Right. And so no, leveraging an experience like what is going to happen next weekend in Jacksonville or you’re going to get real world, very candid, very direct in interface and honest examples of how to do something it. And that’s why I always love hanging with you Rasheed.

00:29:13:10 – 00:29:38:12

And and and brain is like we always have these very real discussions both about business and about detailing. And when you can be authentic, that’s when you can change and that’s when you can grow. And realistically, that’s the whole thing about, business is just problem solving. I started out as a man, I grabbed, I graduated from high school on a Thursday.

00:29:38:19 – 00:30:02:18

I had my final interview on a Friday, and I started working full time as a mechanic on Monday. And, the key to being a cannick is that you absolutely are just problem solving. The challenge people have is they get some knowledge about a topic, and they immediately want to jump to the knowledge. Right? When you have an ego, you go, I know how to fix this.

00:30:02:18 – 00:30:20:06

It’s got to be the molecular structure of the substrate. And you’re like, no, dude, start with the easy thing. Maybe it’s dirty. So when you’re Yanick, you start with the easiest thing necessary. And I’ll give you guys an example of when I really effed up one time and caused myself a lot of work and a lot of money for something stupid.

00:30:20:08 – 00:30:41:03

I rebuilt that engine in a 1986 Chevy three quarter ton pickup, started the engine up and it sounded great. And the frickin heat, it just it went off the charts. I mean, it was 210 degrees that fast. I was like, oh, something’s wrong. I got something going on. So I immediately, you know, pulled apart, putting a thermostat in it, same thing.

00:30:41:05 – 00:31:02:24

So then I said, well, I’ve got to have a head gasket on backwards. Right. So I pulled the head the, the, the manifold off and it wasn’t pulled the heads off. And then my brain went, what if the gauge on the inside of the truck is bad? And so I had rebuilt the top end of this engine three times before I put a manual gauge in, you know?

00:31:02:27 – 00:31:26:12

Oh, God. So, you know, and that’s the thing is, I actually in my shop at my house, I have a thing I call the Wall of Shame, and it’s broken stuff. I’ve got a denim pad that I bought on purpose because I wanted to see how fast, you could burn through paint. I’ve got the the case off of a Chevy transmission that I snapped off by bolting it to an engine.

00:31:26:12 – 00:31:47:24

I’ve done this 100 times. Put the engine on there, put the transmission in there, started cranking on. You go around in a circle, you go back and forth. You go really slow. No, not this time. I’m smart. I know what I’m doing. Pop broke the case of a transmission, so you gotta learn from your mistakes. But it was on the wall to remind myself that I’m here to make mistakes, do the easy stuff.

00:31:48:00 – 00:32:08:12

It’s just constantly a reminder. And I think that is what’s important. The first time you burn through pain of the first time, you create a ginormous pigtail because you got a rotary too close to a curved edge or something, and you’re like, okay, let’s not do that again. Right? So I think on that note of problems, I’m actually going to bounce.

00:32:08:15 – 00:32:31:04

I’m going to go spend a little time with my wife here in Grace spending, this week celebrating our 35th wedding anniversary. Happy anniversary. Happy anniversary. We’ll see you and thank you guys. And we’ll we’ll continue on this. I’ll see you guys next weekend. Man. Congrats again here, Nathan. Your whole family man. That’s awesome that you got to be there and be a part of that.

00:32:31:04 – 00:32:54:10

That was it’s really cool. It’s still tears me up every time I think about it. So I can imagine you guys have a great night, man. Thanks, man. See you next week, bro. Yeah. So. All right, so what other kind of tricks and tips or secrets or things are we going to do there? You guys going to have, anything that we don’t know about yet going on at the training possibly.

00:32:54:12 – 00:33:18:18

we we always have. I’m sorry. That car that we’re going to coach two, I think, I’ll let you talk about that. Really? Well, that’s going to be, 2024 Z06 black for the people that, reigns going to take over that, you can sort of find the cars so it’ll be ready. Black, black car. Those are still hard.

00:33:18:20 – 00:33:40:29

They’re so hard. And then I forgot. Also, they walked back outside. So anybody that’s wanting to learn how to the sand or but I’m a very hands on person. I don’t learn from. I can’t learn from reading a book or anything. I’m hands on. So that’s the way that I teach his hands on, because that’s the only way that I think you’re going to able to learn his hands on.

00:33:41:02 – 00:34:11:23

So right here I have my 2004 pearline that I just got and all that good stuff. Well, this thing is chalky and now and they can just go ham on the thing as much as they want. Nice. We’re not going to hurt. And then I’m going to paint it. Yeah. Nice. That’s awesome. So the thing about that is for anybody that’s never touched gel coat when when Rasheed says that it is that it is, more forgiving.

00:34:11:25 – 00:34:31:06

Gel coat is is a thicker substrate way thicker than any kind of paint? urethane, even base coat, clear coat, even old 1970s, when we used to put lacquer on and then clear over the top of it. Gel coat is a thick material. It’s it is literally if you’ve played with fiberglass resin, gel code is thicker than that.

00:34:31:06 – 00:34:54:19

It’s almost like watered down toothpicks. and it dries super hard, but it’s forgiving. But also gel coat from the factory. Even on high end boats, has a lot of defects in it. So it can be it can have those and holes that Rasheed was showing you. So there’s tricks around this. Mike is another great resource and he’s coming down.

00:34:54:19 – 00:35:09:29

I’m glad he’s coming down because he is. Man, the guy is super smart. but you guys that have been around boats a long time, there’s a lot of money in it. But I’m going to tell you, hands down, boats are the hardest thing I’ve ever detailed. You are working yourself to death. You’re in the boat, you’re out of the boat.

00:35:09:29 – 00:35:28:13

You’re in the boat. And if you don’t do it, very, very systematically, you can wear yourself out in a day. So, yeah, I love it when people stop, like, hey, I’m going to do this amount. Hey, no problem. And they’ll come back and they’re like, oh man, my arms are hurting. I listen, that’s why we charge what we charge.

00:35:28:15 – 00:35:50:06

It’s not for everybody, you know? Everybody wants to do it. But it’s hard. It really is. So, yeah. So we’re going to talk about all that stuff. you’re going to guys are going to be able to use some awesome products. we’re going to talk a little bit about, vinyl repair. And then Rasheed can share with you some of the ways that, I mean, I’ve got a bunch of them.

00:35:50:06 – 00:36:13:10

One, one of the ways that you can actually enhance your business and add to it in ways that you make more money doing new services that are not going to take you a ton of time, like he talked about. You can do you can kick out a cowling in a day if you know what you’re doing. You know when you when I, when I I’m sorry when I say a day like working time is only you know, 2 or 3 hours.

00:36:13:13 – 00:36:32:02

Yeah, yeah. It’s cure time. Correct. You’re, you’re, you’re sitting there watching water boil. But when you’re done, you know, you’re hearing the benefits of that for that, of that money. Yep. And then there’s things that we’ve, that we can talk about when we get there as far as business stuff. But the way you line up your days can also help you.

00:36:32:04 – 00:36:51:07

Right. So you bunch of cowlings and you’re going to do a lot of dirty work like sanding and all that, do all that in one day. And then do you for days and then do your painting days, because the cleanup and tear down of that can take you forever. so you got to just like if you think about painting a car, even an engine cowling, you’ve got to have a clean environment.

00:36:51:07 – 00:37:09:29

You can’t be doing that out in the, you know, dirt. So, now, mind you, my shop is dirty. This is, this is a shop. This isn’t, you know, like, who has a really great shop is Nathan Moore. I’ve seen it. Never been there. This is not that shop. This is a dirty am buffing sanding all the time.

00:37:10:04 – 00:37:34:25

It is this way. And I do a, I have a I have a makeshift paint booth. I’ve painted cars. Beautiful. I’ve had them in car shows and stuff, and I have filtered air coming in and going out to the whole thing, and it’s temperature controlled, but it takes me 12 hours to set up and clean that paint booth before I paint a car, so you don’t tear that down and set it up every single day.

00:37:34:25 – 00:37:54:29

And I’ve got a small shop, right. My whole philosophy is, you know, great things come from little shops and, somebody’s going to disagree with you here. Jason says you have a clean shop. yeah. He was here last night. He understands. Yeah. So it’s a working shop. That’s what I call. And it’s a new shop. This is a trailer queen.

00:37:54:29 – 00:38:17:00

This isn’t black and white checkers and a table over in the corner. And you got your car sitting there right now. What? Both of y’all were just talking about how you talk about your process. You want to have all your dirty work done on a certain day, so you’re not going back and forth and contaminating areas. And then right after you said that Ricky brought up Nate Warren’s shop and you’ve been to work, Nate works out.

00:38:17:00 – 00:38:33:18

When we did the round table training last year, that’s how Nate does his clients. He tells him he’s like, bring your car, drop it off Monday. It’ll be ready on Friday. He does all of his dirty and wet work. He calls it at the beginning of the week so that that stuff is done. And then he pulls it over to this polishing and coating bay.

00:38:33:24 – 00:39:02:27

So while he’s polishing encoding, he’s doing that to all the cars for that week. Kind of like an assembly line. And that way there’s not water and contaminants and blowing out interiors while a coating is curing. And I I’ve never seen a shop do that and and I can said I’ve been doing this for a little while. I’ve been in I’ve been to several shops all over the country, and I thought that was pretty unique and very a very cool way to solve a problem of doing everything in one space without having to cross contamination.

00:39:02:27 – 00:39:26:21

So, yeah, proposition eight for the way he does that, you I’m changing the way you look at stuff is pretty cool. Yeah. The other way is to separate out your shop. Yeah. So the cover on the front of my shop that, that basically the front of the shop with the roll up door and then it has two sides and then a vaulted ceiling on the outside, and it’s 30 by 20 with a drain and a sloped floor.

00:39:26:23 – 00:39:44:27

So now I can do wet work and all the sanding and everything outside of the shop. Nice door shut. And then I can roll them in. And it doesn’t take me that 12 hours to set up a paint booth and clean my entire shop, because anybody that’s ever sanded primer knows it’s everywhere. Can they? Are you going to take a shower?

00:39:44:27 – 00:39:58:22

You’re like, I swear to God, I was wearing clothes. How did it get there? So everybody knows that that primer in the dust and the sanding and gel coats. Even worse, you smell it for the rest of your life. It’s like the carrier of an old Volkswagen bug. It has a very unique small rod. Have you ever have?

00:39:58:22 – 00:40:19:05

You’re a very gel coat. Like when you’re buffing. Yeah. Oh, yeah. And it smells like it. It smells like popcorn. Yeah. It’s weird. It’s got a weird smell. Let’s see. Prep is everything makes a huge mess. Under-promise. Overdeliver. Absolutely. Leave your ego at the door. Absolutely. I have not been there yet, but Nate Sharp Nate Sharp is fantastic.

00:40:19:05 – 00:40:38:24

If you’ve never been there, we’re going to be holding a bunch of trainings there at, for the roundtable on different subjects. We just did one on motorcycles. and did some boat stuff. just, just as a, as a tip. How many people out there just, you know, raise your hand internally by yourself, use both three modes before it was actually book trailer.

00:40:38:24 – 00:41:00:12

It’s it’s a fan. You said you said pulling boat trailers. No coating. Coating boat trailers. Oh, yeah. That’s your money. What the north takes in the mastercards. They pay, they pay for it. It’s crazy. There’s Mike right there with Mike Brinker. Hey, Mike could see you. What do you got there, brother? This is the. This is the Nemo source.

00:41:00:15 – 00:41:32:29

Nemo. So nice that they ran. It’s going to say Nemo. I’m somebody somebody salty that I have my own air freshener set. Very much, very much. That’s awesome. So, we’re getting pretty close to time here. Let’s wrap it up. I wonder if anybody else got anything. If you got any questions, go to Angel wax U.S. dot com, and you can still sign up for the training.

00:41:33:01 – 00:41:54:02

Absolutely. the whole thing, folks, a couple things we’re doing with that is, there’s an option to pay overtime. You can finance the training cost over 12 months. Shopify Pay. I don’t know what the name of the program is, but you have an option to, to finance it. And again, current enterprise guys get the discount and you’re getting a lot of value of this class.

00:41:54:02 – 00:42:14:25

The stuff that Rashid’s giving us three days, the sanding, the polishing, the coating, the gel coat repair, everything. You guys are going to do some vinyl repair as well. the tremendous value in the class, you can finance it. You get that we’re going to do a car to you get access to the automotive coatings, and you get to go offshore fishing like that.

00:42:14:28 – 00:42:32:05

There’s no extra cost for that. That’s, Yeah. if you do go out on the boat, as you know, tip the guys some gas money that that’s kind of, you know, proper etiquette for getting on somebody’s boat. that they’re opening it up to that to us is, That’s pretty awesome. I’m looking forward to it, man.

00:42:32:07 – 00:42:58:28

It’s going to be fun. It’s going to be going to be good. It’s going to be really good. Rasheed, any final thoughts before we kick it out of here? The word of the day. Just be a good person as we go, man. That’s it. That’s, before it’s going to be popped off. You talked about everybody’s had a different level, like someone’s on chapter ten and someone’s on chapter 30.

00:42:59:01 – 00:43:19:24

Quit comparing yourself to other people, man. You know, you’re you’re comparing yourself to people that aren’t even running the same race you’re running. So the people that are on chapter 30 and you’re on chapter ten, just be around them and absorb the knowledge and stuff that up and apply it to your business. Take something from every training, every person you’re around and put that in your toolbelt.

00:43:19:24 – 00:43:37:19

You’ll use it at some point in your life, I guarantee it. Yep. Absolutely. So we had a question from Mike. Listen up is plus one can go fishing. yeah. If you want to do that, Mike, she can take my place. I think I fly out Sunday, so we’re going to. Yeah. Bring it down. it’s a 30 to 39 contender.

00:43:37:22 – 00:43:54:07

It’s got plenty of space. We’re going to have fun. Yeah. I don’t know if I’m getting on the boat either. You’re going to get in the game. I’ll get on the boats. Have to to spray some coating or something, but I don’t know if I’m going out on the water and sharks don’t get along.

00:43:54:10 – 00:44:07:05

Is you know, the thing is, is for sharks. I taste too much like meat. I’m too sweet. And that’s the thing. So, so, so your sweet nut tastes like chicken.

00:44:07:07 – 00:44:40:28

well, that’s my experience. And, you know, my little bit. Brain puts raisins in the potato salad also. Oh, that’s a lie. You know, I’m like, you know, I don’t do that shit. Yeah, well, you know. All right, guys, I love talking to you guys. We will see you next week. Everybody go check it out. The. And it’s going to be super fun man I can’t believe I am so amazed at how much stuff we throw into three days of training every time I go out there, but we seem to get it done and the knowledge unreal.

00:44:41:01 – 00:45:01:15

You know, the combined knowledge you’re getting of people that are going to be there is just fantastic. Even Mike being there really takes the knowledge level way up. He’s a he’s a fantastic well also Broncos year will be here in the show believe worked for crate and their gel code department years ago. Yeah yeah and Sean’s funny except for.

00:45:01:15 – 00:45:13:26

Here’s the thing is a private joke. But you got to be careful when you get on an elevator with Sean. If there’s any ladies on the air, on the elevator, and he knows what I’m talking about, I’m like, oh, it’s like elevators.

00:45:13:28 – 00:45:31:01

Ray knows about elevators. the elevator world, it has its ups and downs. I’m. Yeah, yeah, yeah, I all right, guys, thanks. Appreciate it. See you next week. Safe travels. Thanks for all the love you ever. See you next week. Yes, sir.
