00:00:00:00 – 00:00:26:26

Skiing. Yes, dude, I hit a button and we lost the end of the thing, so I didn’t mean to. I put my hand down and hit it. So anyway, we’re going live. We’ll play that new, intro again another time. That is from Rod’s time in Jacksonville. Jacksonville, Florida, which was, specific, the hottest place on the planet ever been to in my life.

00:00:26:29 – 00:00:46:15

Yeah, I used that on the weekend. Dude, it was so much fun. We had such a blast. But it was so freaking hot right after the hurricane that it was like 101 degrees and like 96% humidity. And then it had just rained like a mother bear, and it was just un believable. And there’s the man himself, Mr.. Yeah, sure.

00:00:46:17 – 00:01:02:07

Morning, Rasheed. Yeah, shout out to Rasheed. We had a fabulous time at his shop. He’s got a great shop. So, Jayden, I don’t know, man. If you’ve ever seen his shop you’re going, I might have to step it up because it’s pretty good up there. And it was dude, I was trying to do everything I could to get there.

00:01:02:07 – 00:01:33:19

But Hurricane Debbie had a different, Yeah, yeah, I was stuck in JFK airport and it literally, literally in JFK. Oh yeah. And he’s going to remind us Rasheed has no AC in his shop. So that’s metal Shop. And we had two big ass vans and that was it. Yeah. So anyway, well welcome to the show. It is another episode of the Road Offense podcast where we always have somebody amazing, some cool story to tell.

00:01:33:19 – 00:01:56:25

And it’s pretty cool because rod reached out to me and said, hey, we need to have Jason Embry on. He reached out and I’m like, and the exact same day Jaden had posted a little clip and he’s like, you know, I’m not very good behind the camera, and he’s ceramic coated a kitchen counter like that. That’s pretty cool.

00:01:56:25 – 00:02:20:21

Yeah, yeah. That’s cool. So you’re doing very good morning. Welcome. How are you doing? I’m doing great. So what else? Whether it’s cooling off a little bit. So no AC in the shop either. So we kind of just rely on, you know, good weather’s. Well that’s good. So. So why don’t you tell everybody where you’re at. I’m in Kentucky Brook, River Lake.

00:02:20:21 – 00:02:36:01

We’re about an hour, hour and a half from Louisville. Most people just know Kentucky for a little while and the horse races and stuff, but we’re really just at a roll bar, right here on the lake. So, we’re one of the smaller lakes in Kentucky. You know, you have, like, ten millennia of, Kentucky Lake and everything else.

00:02:36:01 – 00:02:55:09

So we’re, kind of a smaller lake, but we get a lot of local people here as residents, so it’s, more of, like a vacation home for looking down on the weekends and hanging out. So it’s pretty neat. That’s awesome. Awesome. So do you do a lot of boat detailing and ceramic coating then? Yes, we do. We do have a lot of boats.

00:02:55:12 – 00:03:13:00

We typically get a lot of weight boats, and try to use for the ceramic, mostly just to try to, just because it’s more luxury. And they want to take care of more compared to just like the, you know, like $10,000 pontoons, you know, but we do have a lot of weight boat traffic. And I know you have a lake boat now, don’t you, Jody?

00:03:13:03 – 00:03:39:15

I have a combo. It’s, lake surf and ski boat. So. And unfortunately, it’s actually been in the shop for since I, before I left for a, Paris strip. And there’s no indication on that. It’s going to get out of the shop, which is. It’s really sick. Because Labor Day weekend is coming up. And then, Ron, they’re going to do Colorado.

00:03:39:17 – 00:04:00:06

And I’m like, I gotta paint my house. And I’m like, I don’t think I’m going to get any more days on the water. So yeah, and I keep telling him, I have a shop. Why don’t you just bring it over and we’ll fix it? Because, you know, well, we’re we’re probably at that point at that point. And, it’s like I’m trying to be I’m trying to be a good neighbor.

00:04:00:07 – 00:04:24:15

Not much of him. Yeah, well, you know, it’s unbelievable. We can say. I mean, we can fix everything. So. So what’s going on? You know, let’s let’s do a little bit of your backstory. You’ve actually been on the show before, but for those that haven’t, haven’t caught that episode, tell us how you got started. And, what you’re working on these days.

00:04:24:17 – 00:04:42:17

So I really got started by accident. I started, working for a dealership in high school. I was probably around 15 or 16 somewhere. That’s where I started detailing cars. And I really enjoyed what it brought. It brought a lot of joy just because you see it before I have the result, and I really wanted to take it to the next level.

00:04:42:19 – 00:05:02:06

I started putting on Facebook like, you know, I’ll detail your car, brother books, or, you know, something small like that. And it turned out to just be bigger. I started them up very strong, boy, in all of the seasons in Kentucky. So, you know, summer, fall, I mean, winter was the worst. So we was out there in like, freezing cold weather.

00:05:02:09 – 00:05:19:21

What what is where in Kentucky? Like it really just depends. I mean, it’s some years are really bad, some years on, you know, it just gets super cold as far as snow. Not really that bad. Maybe a couple inches at a time, but it’s nothing like, you know, like Elvis or up north or anything like that, so.

00:05:19:21 – 00:05:40:24

Okay. Yeah. No, I just wondered what it was like down there when it gets cold, because, you know, like those Rasheed and those guys, they’re pretty much summer all the time. Yeah. So. So then you went from high school to now you’ve got a shop. So how did you get there with, you know, when you started and where you’re at now?

00:05:40:26 – 00:06:02:04

So really I started in my first job where of course, like I said, I moved to another shop right about a mile from my parents house. It was in a good location, but on this side of the lake we get a lot more traffic. And it really just came by accident because the owner or the, owner of this property reached out to me, was like, hey, you know, I know you seem like a really good guy.

00:06:02:04 – 00:06:17:06

Would you like to lease this spot that I just bought? Because it’s just sitting here like, well, let me take a look at it real quick. And, turns out I really love it. It’s right next to the lake, like, within a mile. So we’re we’re right here next to it. And it it really does help because everybody sees the business here.

00:06:17:06 – 00:06:42:27

And we have lake neighborhoods around. Word spreads out. And we’re going to tell you the the accidental detailing is really it’s gonna be one day I tripped and I fell in this book. And the next thing you know, I’m washing a boat and, you know, so I just want to know if you’re patting or detailing times and ceramic coating so that you can take the boats out and test the coating if we need to.

00:06:42:29 – 00:07:01:09

I was actually talking to a customer. He has a brand new white boat, and if you just let me borrow for the weekend, you know I can do some testing for. He’s like, yeah, I think no, it’s about $50,000. So I what about the policy? Yeah, I, I’ve driven a lot of boats so I can, I can do that.

00:07:01:09 – 00:07:21:02

So the picture that Jodi put out there, the one that you were showing you, you were not detailing a boat, you were ceramic coating a kitchen countertop. And I’ve had a little experience with that. But I want to talk to some people that because there was a lot of people that are like, what history. So let’s talk about ceramic coating other things other than automotive and boats.

00:07:21:05 – 00:07:39:23

So you’re using I know products, you’re using your Zune IGL product. What what were you using on that countertop? So in the countertop specifically, we use pre coat to prep a surface as well as Paul polishing the, countertop. We use quartz. You can use cords. You can use marine if you want. You can use eclipse.

00:07:39:29 – 00:07:57:21

It really just varies on the, type of job that you’re doing. But ever since our last show, here recently, I became a ambassador for audio. So now, you know, I’m able to help out other people in this or sort of, industry. And, Raymond Hunter really is actually the guy that introduced me to the whole residential thing.

00:07:57:24 – 00:08:13:19

And he I think he’s the one who first, like, brought it up. He’s like, did you guys know you can just code to countertop or, you know, a shower or anything like that? And now there’s a class coming up I’m attending in Wisconsin next month. I mean, you can do just about anything with it. You really can. Yeah.

00:08:13:19 – 00:08:29:19

And I think that people need to look into that because all the time, you know, people are seeing, you know, especially coming into this time of the year. Right? Kids are going back to school. People are starting to focus on other things. They’re going to be putting away their RV’s in their boats in the next couple of months, which is a great advertising.

00:08:29:19 – 00:08:44:22

If you’re not doing a marketing campaign, if you’re not doing like an email blast, that’s what you need to do it on. Coming up here is, you know, let us ceramic coat your boat in your RV before you put it away for the year. The next thing you need to do to me is you need to focus on doing some of these other services.

00:08:44:24 – 00:09:05:21

If you didn’t know you ceramic coated countertop or a glass shower enclosure, how many people have a glass shower enclosure? Wherever you live, anybody that’s listening to this thing go out there, you can polish glass, you can put a coating on it, and it’s a good way to keep you going throughout the year. So exactly again, to that stuff diversify.

00:09:05:21 – 00:09:22:29

Go do something exactly that you can master in other areas. You know, when things get slow with the boats and the cars, we have something else to fall back on. So that really does help out a bunch. And you can you can approach, you know, big places like restaurants or hotels or, you know, the possibilities are endless with this.

00:09:23:01 – 00:09:44:12

Everybody has a house, everybody has a, you know, a fabric sofa or or a glass shower or, you know, glass on the outside of their house. There’s just so many ways to benefit with it. Yeah. Ceramic coat, the windshield because winter is coming and you want to keep that snow and ice off of that. I mean, that you really can hit a lot of different areas, and I think it’s just a matter of opening up your mind into other areas.

00:09:44:12 – 00:10:10:01

I mean, if you think back several years ago, people wouldn’t do anything with wheels or glass or bumpers or anything. It was just they just were, you know, they specialized in one area. And then as you expand that out, you just open yourself up to other possibilities. So. So one of the things that I was thinking about when you standing in that kitchen is my, my two sons are actually in the process of buying a house together.

00:10:10:01 – 00:10:39:20

Right. And there’s a pretty big builder here and in the valley. And I’m like, man, how cool would it be if you were able to go to a builder and say, look, as you’re opening up these because they’re in phase one of this whole new subdivision, right? It’s like, how cool would it be that you could go to this, this group and then you could say, look, let us, you know, be your ceramic coating guy for your kitchens and your bathrooms and stuff.

00:10:39:27 – 00:11:01:08

And even if they don’t want to do it as part of their build making arrangement, where you could put your business card in there and say, hey, we can ceramic Kocher. Your all your glass and your and your bathrooms. I think it’d be awesome. Exactly right. And offer a of a little reverence thing. You know, give them 10% commission on any jobs that they sell for you.

00:11:01:10 – 00:11:28:16

It’s that easy. Yeah, it’s the biggest thing. Yeah, I used to, I used to own a home inspection company years and years ago. And, that’s one of the things we did is we went to realtors and you would just introduce yourself, bring them a box of donuts. Say, hey, look, this is what I do. If you guys, you know, refer somebody, I can give you a little bit of a kickback or something like that and just offer it to new home buyers.

00:11:28:18 – 00:11:47:00

And then go in and do those services. You know, these are things that you can turn into an entire business, to, to be able to, you know, just not just not just keep yourself in business, but actually expand. Yeah. Fliers, residential coatings are given to a bunch of my realtor friends. See? That’s smart. That’s what you do.

00:11:47:00 – 00:12:19:29

Well, and my question for you and rod kind of touched on it there. I think a lot of times people get focused on their niche, which I get it right, because niche domination really helps you grow. But I think especially in automotive detailing, there is this crazy thing called seasons that everybody complains about, right? And so do you create a secondary business or do you make it an extension of your current business?

00:12:20:03 – 00:12:38:18

Now how are you approaching that or have you made a different business, or are you just making it an additional service offering that you offer to your customers? Yeah. So there’s a big reason that I opened a separate company for it. Just because I go up to a home owner or a restaurant, I don’t want to be judged telling, you know what I mean?

00:12:38:24 – 00:12:54:08

So it’s two separate entities. We opened it as, you know, ceramic solutions. It looks a lot more professional and the books are totally off from each other. Yeah. So the image they can be you can do that with your books. You can have them be separate books. You can have it just be a different, line of business or a different class.

00:12:54:10 – 00:13:17:24

And if you have a really good quality CRM, you can actually do home services as well as automotive and use the same all in one system. Yeah. Oh one if anybody wants to know, I know of a system that can do that. So, anyway, that is a great thing for people to get into. And, and the other thing there is just learning and constantly educating yourself.

00:13:17:24 – 00:13:37:09

And I know that’s something that you’ve been involved with. I see your post all the time that that’s something that, you know, we had, Mr. Le Palm who’s commenting on here, Mr.. Joel Palm. Yep. Their separate company is the best way to go also for payment tiers. So talk to your talk to your financial advisor, your tax specialist about that.

00:13:37:09 – 00:13:57:28

But but I was just when I was coming on I was Joel is always been a huge proponent as well as we have of education. And that is you know, some of that stuff is invaluable. You know, we talk to our clients all the time in the automotive industry about the importance of protecting your investment. And when you’re looking at your business, that’s your investment.

00:13:58:00 – 00:14:32:19

And your yes, write offs are good that way too. Your investment is yourself. And so invest in yourself. Go do the trainings, go do learn and keep yourself up to speed. One of the other things is on business. Note is a lot of times if you talk to an advisor, you want to have a parent company and a secondary company and the secondary company purchase is from the, the, the parent company, just talk to a tax advisor about that, because there’s advantages of doing that where, it does become a subsidiary, but it becomes an expense and you have your main assets in your main company.

00:14:32:19 – 00:14:52:25

So, which which brings us to you now, how is your company structured? You’ve got two, but do you have employees or is it just you running around with your head cut off? So do you have one full time employee and a one part time employee? But as far as with the, residential coatings and such, it’s just me right now.

00:14:52:27 – 00:15:05:04

I will borrow my guy if I need some help, like I did once. I think our third job, I was running behind a little bit. I was like, you know what? Just, you know, you start making cars with me all the time. I’ll teach you a little bit. Took about an hour to teach him, and he helped me out real fast.

00:15:05:06 – 00:15:22:13

It’s very, very similar as far as like countertops and shower glass and stuff. The same thing relate to, you know, the cars and boats and everything else like that. So it’s very simple process. It’s just learning. You know, different material uses what and Raymond Pods really has really been my mentor on that. He’s been there and done that.

00:15:22:13 – 00:15:44:19

He’s done several, several jobs. So I usually bug him on the phone all the time. And, roll over. And that’s it. A lot of it is just a, I don’t want to say this. I don’t want to offend anybody, but a lot of it is just the way you look. Right? So, meaning, when you go into a home, it’s a different animal.

00:15:44:19 – 00:16:09:23

It’s like working on somebody’s house. You know, you can work on there. An 85 Camaro. That’s great. And I’m not knocking anybody with an 85 Camaro. But then when you start working on people that have multiple Ferraris, you got to kind of clean it up a little bit. When you’re going into somebody’s home, that’s a different animal. You were entering their private space, you know, and so you need to you need to make sure that you have the image you want to be logo up.

00:16:09:23 – 00:16:30:19

You want to have your professional look and stuff. But you just just take the time to, to think about that. You’re going into somebody’s home. That’s that’s as intimate as you can get somebody’s home and their bathroom. So you, you never know. Well, that’s the one thing, you know, always stay with the professional attitude and, be as mature as possible, just like I am.

00:16:30:19 – 00:16:43:18

And, I get to talk to the homeowners and build a relationship with them that way. It’s, you know, they get to learn the true side of me. And, I come into their home, I do the work, and, you know, if they want to be there, they can. If not, I’ve done a couple job so far where they’re not even.

00:16:43:18 – 00:17:05:15

They’re. So it’s, I’ve built great relationships with these clients. And, just establishing trust is the biggest thing. Yes. So when you’re talking to these customers about, you know, this new service ness that you’re going to, what is the longevity that you’re telling them that they can expect you you have to reapply it. What’s the care? Right?

00:17:05:15 – 00:17:24:20

Because, I mean, even with cars, we have maintenance on a ceramic coating, right? So what does that look like for a homeowner? So as far as maintenance, like for countertops, especially, they just want to use like a non hazard chemical. So they just keep it wipe down. They keep it clean just like normal countertops don’t get as much traffic as a a car.

00:17:24:20 – 00:17:57:28

You know, in the rule state. So, you know, it’s as far as I know, you got it. A lot of friends. Yeah, family. Six kids, two dogs and five cats ever. You know, it’s like, yeah, that’s a lot of pressure when you put the other thing that I’ve always wondered, and I. And I know the answer to this because I’ve talked to, Joel and Marcus and Mike and, Dustin about this, but the coating that you’re talking about are specifically designed where they can be on a countertop.

00:17:58:00 – 00:18:15:17

It is not. You’re not just grabbing, you know, you’re not going down to the O’Reilly auto Parts and buying the coating of the day and throwing it on somebody’s counter. You need to make sure that it is a high quality coating that that actually can have the companies backing, that it’s okay to put it on a countertop.

00:18:15:19 – 00:18:38:13

It’s not every coating can do that. And I, I always tell people, you don’t want to experiment until you’ve talked to somebody. If you can talk to the chemist or somebody that knows that, that is going to be okay, because some of these SiO2 products are not okay to put on food related surfaces. You’re exactly right. And Algeo does the best to be as eco friendly as possible.

00:18:38:15 – 00:18:55:15

I’ll talk to these guys a bunch to make sure everything was okay before entering somebody’s home. And, you know, you know, damage something of theirs. It’s very important. I feel like, you know, inside your home and damaging stuff would be a little bit different than a color. So that’s just like you said. It’s the most intimate area of their life.

00:18:55:15 – 00:19:13:16

That’s where they go to relax is where they go to escape. And the last thing you want to do is, give yourself a bad rep and, and mess up something in something wrong. Yeah. I’m going to throw out a just a little personal anecdote there from somebody that came into my home of what not to do. I’m a big music guy.

00:19:13:16 – 00:19:34:17

I love music, right. But I, I have a really eclectic taste in music. Right. It might be, every might be Bon Jovi and then you might hear, like you said, Bon Jovi. It might be you might have Bob Marley and Bon Jovi on the same playlist. And then you might like from old school, like LED Zeppelin and stuff on there, for sure.

00:19:34:17 – 00:19:51:11

You’re going to have LED Zeppelin in there, but it also might be disturbed and Rob zombie. So yeah, the one thing you want to do is if you if you do not have earbuds or headphones, just take a deep breath and go into somebody’s home without the music that day, because the last thing you want to do is go in there and blast me.

00:19:51:11 – 00:20:17:21

So I had a guy come in and do carpet, and he had just this blasting music, and my wife works from home, so she’s in the other room going, what in the hell is going on? The walls are shaking. Yeah. Big subwoofer. Yeah, exactly. Yeah. That’s it. I milkshake brings all the boys in. All the boys to the.

00:20:17:24 – 00:20:40:16

That’s all my playlist. Oh I love that. Yeah it is definitely I’m Wu-Tang forever you know. Right baby. That’s right. So you want the heaviest where you have a little personal thing there. Just kind of be be cognizant of what you’re doing out there. It’s, you know, it’s all fun. And, you know, that’s one of the things that I took away from a lot of the trainings that we go to, is fun.

00:20:40:18 – 00:20:59:23

You got to have fun with what you’re doing. But also be very, very cognizant of the people around you. But so, so, Jaden, how many years have you been doing that? And I’m not talking about the high school mom and dad’s driveway, but literally when you opened up your detailing business with a name, how many years have you been doing this?

00:20:59:26 – 00:21:19:09

So we opened up in June of 2021. So it’s been a little bit over three years. So we’ve been it feels like 30 sometimes, but we’ve been open legally for a little over three years. You know, we’re not going to quit. So it really blew my mind from when I first started doing the washes, the basic interior jobs.

00:21:19:09 – 00:21:58:27

And now we’re doing, you know, anti-corrosion, installs. We’re doing industrial, installs. We’re doing, I mean, residential coatings, we’re doing marine ceramic coatings, automotive, you name it. I mean, it’s I never would have expected it. Yeah. And I don’t think people understand it. And I’m a big proponent of the industrial anti-corrosion stuff. Joel knows this. You know, we we attended, training there in Wisconsin with Mike and, Joel and Marcus Parsley and, I, I think the industrial coatings is something that people really should take a look at because it is a completely it is absolutely a new business.

00:21:59:00 – 00:22:28:17

Yes, it’s a new business. You want to go into this with a different mindset? It is a preventative. So when we, we do a lot of stuff with, Richard Hutchings from Leather Repair Company, and, Thanks, Ryan. So, leather repair company has the Clean Protect Restore, and there’s a for it’s preventative maintenance, but. Oh, sorry, Richard, I heard that there are three there, so there’s four.

00:22:28:18 – 00:22:53:23

So I’m just going to say the thing about the the rust remediation stuff is it is different. It is not it is not there to make it look pretty. That’s an ancillary benefit. But it actually preserves whatever surface you’re spraying it on. And I think that’s completely different mindset. It’s not about perfection. It’s about getting the rust off of, you know, preventing it from rusting.

00:22:53:28 – 00:23:15:13

There’s so many applications you cannot even imagine. You’re in a boat area, right? Hey, drop your boat off in the lake, bring your trailer. We’ll do corrosion resistant coating on your trailer, you know? So, there’s an element there. Yeah, that is something that is people aren’t taking into consideration.

00:23:15:15 – 00:23:34:05

You know, I love dirt. Let me find out what that is. Headphones is my days. And, yeah, we’re going to have to find out what yours is and and we’ll throw up. Awesome. I will throw a, a challenge out there. You send me a type of music, and I will actually show you my playlist. I’m sure it’s on there.

00:23:34:05 – 00:24:00:27

Right. They’re both pretty, like the friggin terabytes of music. So anyway, it’s good. So the whole thing is a is a whole new thing, and it really is. I mean, anything that you can see that’s, steel or concrete, I mean, anything out there, and you can save these companies money. You can save, you know, homeowners money, whether it be, steel project that they have undercarriage of their vehicles.

00:24:00:29 – 00:24:25:08

That’s a huge thing. You see a lot of rust or a crutch rusting out. So that’s just one whole business as it is. Undercoating. Yeah, well, and that’s the thing is, is that, you know, people have been doing that for a long time. Undercoating. I doubt it. They take it, send it to me. So yeah, it’s people know it is undercoating and there’s some really nasty crap.

00:24:25:08 – 00:24:55:26

I, I would love to find out whoever the engineer that decided on GM pickups. Oh, God. That waxy stuff. And I’d like to drag their ass under the truck and be like, okay, go ahead, do something with that crap. Yeah, it’s going to rust underneath it. And you’re doing nothing more than put some black goo on it. Yeah, but it, it’s I think that is really when you look at the industry and the trajectory, it’s going, it’s it’s not going into, you know, we’re not going to see some major change in the way we’re doing cars.

00:24:55:26 – 00:25:18:25

Right. We have to because the paint is about as thin as the hair on the top of my head. But but it is going to be in the types of coatings and the types of products that we’re putting on to preserve that super thin paint underneath. Yeah. Another one. Yeah. So so are you what other services are you extending to right.

00:25:18:27 – 00:25:39:23

So we’re really just taking to the residential and in our regular business detailing. So with the marine section, we get a lot of boats dropped off here, man. So it’s got people out season. So it’s time for the ceramics. Aside from the details. So really just sticking with the automotive in the marine side right now as well as the residential, we will do some ages projects every now and then.

00:25:39:25 – 00:26:01:23

But right now I’m also working with AGL, as a rep to help out with people and get them accounts and mentor them a little bit and solve their problems. Yeah, really, it all boils down to solving problems, whether it be with the ages, you know, the new customers with AGL, my customers with the detailing, ceramic coating, their houses, everything is all problem solving.

00:26:01:23 – 00:26:21:05

And if you can solve some of these problems, you’re you’re going to be there. All right. So, so I got a question, and I’m asking this mainly because Joel’s on otherwise that probably the comments. So I want to know how is the transition been to the new ownership since Joel’s got off. And all he’s doing is playing golf.

00:26:21:05 – 00:26:42:09

So how are Mike Garland and Dustin Jackson doing. And Mike’s on. Yeah. Oh, here we go. I don’t want to make Mike to have even though they’re doing great. These guys are working hard I love Joel and I love Jeff and I love Mike and I love Dustin. They work their butts off of this and they they have a lot on their plate.

00:26:42:12 – 00:27:02:03

So there’s new things coming out. And I’ve really liked Val. Jill has been running from Joel all the way to Mike and Dustin. So these guys are kicking butt and I’m right there with them. If they need anything, I’m always there. So with the new trainings coming out, they’re doing good. That’s that’s awesome. I just love you know, it’s fun to watch the transition.

00:27:02:03 – 00:27:23:22

Right. Because for years you know Joel with this little bulldog attitude it’s like we’re going to build this. We’re going to bring this to the market. We’re going to impact people’s businesses. And just had a really a dedication and determination to bring this to the market. Right. And then they grew it to this point. And then next thing you know, they’re on the market.

00:27:23:24 – 00:27:57:28

Right. And you know, Mike and Dustin come with their energy and their passion and, you know, it’s fun to see the evolution because sometimes when you see a business transfer hands, you kind of lose something. Right? And and it’s kind of fun to see that Eagles continuing to grow under the leadership of Michael and Dustin. So shout out and you can pay Joel later for the compliment and analogy of the dog.

00:27:57:28 – 00:28:20:15

So so Joel as a bulldog, that makes sense. Marcus Parsley let’s see. Now it’s less bulldog and more Roman. Yeah. So so yes. Ryan here’s the deal. So? So. Joel. Bulldog. Good. Marcus Parsley is more like a Rottweiler. Mike Carlin, I dude, I’m going to say, like, golden retriever, that I was gonna say he’s like a golden retriever.

00:28:20:15 – 00:28:37:18

And Dustin Jackson, you know, dude, I’m just just like, I like a little yippy Pomeranian, like, hey, man, you run around a little dog. He’s got. He’s got so much going on in there. You need to give him a little bit. Give me some CBD to calm down a little bit. Just. I don’t know how he does it.

00:28:37:21 – 00:29:03:26

And it’s a we don’t I do. It’s a secret. But you know it’s he he actually drinks IGL eclipse every morning. It’s like an energy drink. And so, he, he just pops the top and there you go. Yeah brother. Today, Harlan is a guy who’s hundreds. That is true. That is true. All that Jackson. And yet Dustin would just like with this little prima donna.

00:29:03:26 – 00:29:28:14

Erica, right? That’s right. Well, we’re having a lot of fun. Yes we are. That’s fun. This is. That’s the coolest part about it. And May. Yes, she’s. Oh, man. No. Yes. Geralyn. You can tell we love from, Wow. So better people, though. Yeah. No. Great people. And, I mean, we’re teasing them a lot. We love them.

00:29:28:14 – 00:29:50:16

Good friends with them, and I. I’ve never had anything but, you know, respect and help from that, from the whole crew. I, you know, everybody that’s been involved. So I really I always encourage people to do that. We’re actually having a training coming up in September at, Tayden trail tryouts location in Colorado. And IGL is going to be the featured coding that we’re having out there, for that event.

00:29:50:18 – 00:30:09:00

So, you know, if you haven’t signed up and you’re going to be in the Colorado area, in September, physics and seventh, fourth, like and six and seven go out. There’s still time to sign up for that. It’s getting really full. There’s a lot of people out there. Yeah. Jaden. Black lab, loyal, dedicated. Yeah. That’s cool.

00:30:09:02 – 00:30:28:20

That is true. Are you guys going to Sema? Oh, absolutely. Oh, come on, man, we’re everybody. We are everywhere we have I think we have six more trips before the end of the year. And one of them is in Holland. So we’re all over. We are multiple countries. We I will have been in three countries this year.

00:30:28:20 – 00:30:53:21

Jody will to have been, I’ll be in five. Yeah, but part of it’s for fun, so I know, but see what ended up with you? Mexico with, one Bill Salas and, Rigo Santana. Dan for me and Judy, we went to Paris and, and Greece, which was absolutely awesome. And then you and I are going to Holland, so.

00:30:53:27 – 00:31:15:03

Yeah. Yeah, I’m sure we’ll squeeze some, but something else in there do so it’s good. So yeah. You. This is my first year of Sema coming up. So you know I’m pretty stoked about it. That’s awesome I love that there is a compliment. So they’ve picked an awesome team of ambassadors. And Jaden represents company well and with knowledge and professionalism.

00:31:15:03 – 00:31:48:18

And that that is true I mean I, I will say this, you know, it’s been fun. You know, looking back over, you know, first meeting you years ago and, and just watching your evolution as a business owner, as a craftsman. And, and I would agree you are a great ambassador for IGL. And, and I think everybody, you know, when they look to you, they know that there is a young man who’s passionate, dedicated, loyal, who knows his stuff, both on the automotive side but also in the residential side.

00:31:48:21 – 00:32:11:05

And you understand the products in their application. And so you are a great resource, you know. So looking ahead, you know, what do you have planned for the end of 2024? In 2025? I’m really looking to take this to the next level. I want to bring this two restaurants. I want to bring it to the nice homes. I just want to solve everybody’s problems and do it the right way.

00:32:11:08 – 00:32:30:22

But most importantly, I just signed on with agile. So I want to get some accounts and I want to help people out and grow their companies as well. So with, you know, the mentors that I’ve had with like Joel, Mike, all of these guys that have helped me out, I want to do the same for other people. So I want to give them the key to to be successful.

00:32:30:24 – 00:32:55:13

I want to see other people growing and I want to see them succeed, and that just makes me happy. More than anything. That’s awesome. Well, that’s that’s really cool. And I think that that’s, that’s the thing is trying to help people out and trying to get out there and, bring some special ideologies. Yeah. I think that that’s the key is finding a company that you really connect with and, and, growing with them and keeping it professional.

00:32:55:15 – 00:33:18:15

That’s the one thing that I’ve always noticed is that, you know, people that stay out of the controversy and out of the, trolling, and I wasn’t going to use that word, but but yes, that’s exactly what I’m talking. And staying out of the drama, staying out of the bullshit and just being a professional person and and, that’s the key to it.

00:33:18:15 – 00:33:37:29

I think. You know, there’s so many people who get caught up in that stuff. And so we appreciate that you’re not caught up in that. And, and there’s a lot of people that, you know, are really, really watching the industry to see what happens next. You know, everybody’s this is, you know, it’s it’s it’s a changing industry.

00:33:37:29 – 00:34:01:11

If you think back, I was I was filling out a survey for a business thing that asked me to look back five years ago and five years ago was pre-COVID and just think about where everybody was in 2019 and then where everybody is today and what the industry has done and the changes and some of the switches and pivots and things that people have had to do.

00:34:01:13 – 00:34:24:16

And I think that just thinking about that for a couple of minutes makes you realize how much the industry changes, then I know a lot of people don’t say it’s an industry, and I would adamantly disagree with that. Anytime there’s a massive number of individuals that are doing the same thing, that’s an industry. That’s an industry. So yeah, that’s an issue and it’s an industry, but it’s more than just auto motive.

00:34:24:23 – 00:34:49:05

It is. It is a industry of preserving and protecting all kinds of surfaces. So there there’s surface protection and and preventing from rust. And that is what really gets down to it. So like like you said, yeah. There you go. Yeah. Joe, ignore the drama. Jake is very much a stand up person. So proud of him and all his work and personal achievement.

00:34:49:05 – 00:35:28:25

I love that, you know, I love that you said, you know, it’s time you know, the IGL ambassadorship gives you an opportunity to give back, right? I mean, you know, we were talking about rod. Nice travel schedule for the last two years, we have made a very purposeful decision to be at as many events that we can be at with the sole purpose of trying to impact people’s businesses and life, whether it’s by helping with training, by bringing our software to them, by offer business consulting, by just being a sounding board.

00:35:28:25 – 00:35:55:23

Sometimes you just need a fresh perspective, right? Yeah. And every time rod and I go to one of these trainings or one of these events, we learn something. I cannot tell you how much I’ve learned this year. Just being shoulder to shoulder, hand in hand polisher to polisher with people and it’s been an amazing experience. And when you get to the point, and I don’t even think you have to get to the point, right.

00:35:55:26 – 00:36:21:24

There are opportunities all the way all along your journey of building your business to give to others. Right. To lean into others. Because what happens is, is when you lean into others, you know, naturally are blessed, you’re naturally benefited you, you will create new opportunities and new relationships that will still last for a long time. So it’s it’s just it’s just an amazing opportunity.

00:36:21:24 – 00:36:41:03

It’s fun to see you be a part. I love what Mike Karlin and Dustin Jackson, I love what Joel Pom and Marcus Parsley have done for the industry and you know, it’s like I was watching a TikTok with Bob Phillips. So shout out to the PBS crew to Bob’s like, you know, I really he said in this post, I realized that I needed to give back right?

00:36:41:03 – 00:37:13:29

And there’s there’s power in giving back. There is it’s giving me a good life. So the least I could do is, is help other people out. Yeah. You know, it gives us some really unique opportunities this year alone. I have been involved in trainings where I actually helped train on ceramic coating. Every time we go, we talk about software, obviously ceramic coating training that we, we were involved in, where we were actually teaching leather repair, leather repair, in Canada, I actually taught people how to, polish with a rotary.

00:37:13:29 – 00:37:32:16

Yes. You did a bunch of people that none, never used a rotary. And so they were like, let’s find some old dude that knows how to do this. And so I did some of that, but I think I really enjoyed doing that. I really enjoy being involved in other people learning, whether that’s a new skill or it’s honing an old skill.

00:37:32:23 – 00:37:56:13

And it’s funny because you talk about your, you know, your circle of people that you’re, that help influence and people that are advocates or, ambassadors. Some of the biggest advocates for us have been some of our competitors, if you will. I’ve had Dustin, Dustin customers over to us. I have had a phone call while we were at a training, and it was a, piece of the software that we do really well.

00:37:56:13 – 00:38:15:05

And the client was very concerned that Dustin was going to get upset because they’re like, we really liked us, and he’s a great guy. And I just called him up and said, hey, this is what’s going on. We transferred the client over to me. I’ve done the same thing. I’ve changed things over to him. So I think that people don’t understand that it can be very pleasant.

00:38:15:05 – 00:38:40:10

You can be friends with somebody. That is, you can work to elevate product. You are we’re all trying to elevate the entire industry. And and so I really appreciate the people that, you know, that are that are good advocates for the industry and for learning and for just growing this into something. Because at the end of the day, we’re all feeding our families and we’re all doing that stuff.

00:38:40:10 – 00:39:01:21

We love the fact that our our people that work with us are employees. We call them team members. Most of them have been with us more than 11 years. We have a dozen employees, and we have one guy we have seen two and four years ago, and he’s the only one that hasn’t been with us for 11 years.

00:39:01:23 – 00:39:21:15

So, just think about that for a minute. We are so happy and blessed that we have these people that trust us to help them feed their families. And that’s what it’s like. That’s what it’s about. At the end of the day, it’s not about who has the best polisher, who has the best product, who has the best software.

00:39:21:15 – 00:39:38:15

It’s about how do you feed your families and how do you keep the people going that are in this industry and keep everybody healthy, happy, safe and having a good time? So the day that Jodi and I stop having a good time is the day you’re not going to see us anymore. So it’s, it’s all about, what am I about?

00:39:38:17 – 00:40:00:06

And then there you go. Yes, you can help your customer out. So you have a customer, and they’re looking for a problem. It’s something that I don’t do. Send them to other people that’s qualified. That’s friends of mine around the area. You know, you’re talking also birds, James Ratliff. So I try to keep myself in a circle of all the people that you know, of quality, you know, that represent a lot of integrity in the shop.

00:40:00:06 – 00:40:19:09

So that’s who I send my customers to. Yeah. And the other thing that that is, is to build somebody up that isn’t right. A lot of times somebody will come in and they don’t know how to do it the right way, and they may be involved in some of the garbage and the BS that goes around. Take those people under your wing, be somebody that’s just there is a sounding board, you know, people people have issues.

00:40:19:09 – 00:40:42:27

You have no idea. I was talking with somebody today. You have no idea what kind of issues or path somebody is on. You don’t know the backstory. And they could be they could wake up today, and today might be the last day if somebody isn’t there for them. And so it take the opportunity to find happiness or joy in something every day, even if it is just a cup of coffee.

00:40:43:00 – 00:41:08:02

Funny sticker. Somebody makes a joke. You know, I literally fought for, what, four and a half for five years that we’ve been doing this podcast right before we go on air. I always try to say something stupid to get Jody to laugh. Every single show, almost 500 episodes. I try to come up with something off the wall to get him to laugh, because I think it’s funny when we start the show, if he’s laughing and when he’s not talking.

00:41:08:04 – 00:41:29:20

So and I and I like to laugh, so I’m easily entertained. So do something to help people out. And and and be there for them on a personal level. That’s to me what the, the whole issue is. Yeah. I love that. Ryan Griggs. Sometimes we all just need to shut up and listen, using an open mindset that we all have things going on.

00:41:29:20 – 00:41:53:22

You know, I, I love my wife’s. She says this all the time. She says you don’t know the backstory. So always lead with love, right. And you know, dude, if you can just. Keep that as a motto, man. Some there are so many ways that you can have an impact on people’s lives. So. So before we wrap up, so I have a question for you.

00:41:53:26 – 00:42:23:07

You know, you’ve been on this journey since your teen. What are 1 or 2 things that you’ve learned along the way that you think are essential for small business owners to implement in their life and in their business? So a lot of people are going to agree. Some people aren’t, but I think of having a physical relationship with yourself as far as working out and dieting and actually loving yourself is, one of the biggest things.

00:42:23:09 – 00:42:40:09

So you cannot you can do all of these things. But if you’re not happy with yourself and if you’re not in shape and you’re not working towards it, then you’re not going to get to where, you need to be. That version 2.0 of yourself is very important. Now, all of us, like sometimes we don’t always go to the gym every single day, but we work on ourselves.

00:42:40:09 – 00:42:57:26

We read, we listen to podcasts, and we just try to to be the best version we can so that we can be the best version for our customers. That’s the biggest thing I have. You know, I have employees, they have families, I have my family, I have my customers, I have everything else that rely on me. And the least I could do is take care of myself.

00:42:57:28 – 00:43:20:03

Yeah. So that’s one thing that people don’t realize. Yeah, I’m going to throw out mine for today is going to be to reach out to people if you need help. There’s so many times that that we don’t understand. And we are especially as men. And I’m going to be very biased here. As men, we have a hard time reaching out to somebody and saying, hey, man, I just need to talk to somebody.

00:43:20:03 – 00:43:39:11

I’m having a rough day. And sometimes, you know, men are looked at that as that, as a weakness. But it’s not we, we suppress so much. Right. You know, you think about it as a as a husband, as a father, as a business owner. It doesn’t matter what you’re doing. It’s I’m fine, I’m fine, I’m fine. I’ll take care of this.

00:43:39:14 – 00:44:01:11

Yes, you should know. You should get an iced coffee. Just get the coffee, man. And. And get a scone with this. Right. Coffee. Enjoy it. It’s a pint of ice cream and they’ll burn that off. Yes, but get us going or something with that coffee right now. And that’s a good point. I mean, how many of us, you know, we’re hungry and what do we do?

00:44:01:11 – 00:44:27:28

We’re losing energy and we run and we grab a coffee. An energy drink. Bang. You know, whatever. Right? Instead of going, all right, I need to take a moment and just rejuvenate, fuel myself. Right. And so some Waterman, sometimes that’s just taking a walk and getting away from the chaos. Yeah. So is it things that, you know, like I said, reach out to somebody.

00:44:27:28 – 00:44:54:22

Yep. Mental health is swept under the rug, and people think it’s a weakness and it’s not. One of the things that Jody and I have had as a rule in this office for with in September next month, we are actually are 15, 15 years baby 15. And yes, that’s the same way. I do agree with you, Sarah, but but we have a thing we called a soapbox, and Jody knows if I walk in the door and I shut the door and I say it, I physically say, I’m going to get on my soapbox now.

00:44:54:29 – 00:45:13:04

And he knows all I’m going to do is I’m going to just go and then I’m going to come down off of it and I’m like, I’m good. Now let’s go to work. Because if you don’t do that, sometimes you’ve got to be able to blow off that steam. Whether that’s working out to me, it’s going in my shop.

00:45:13:07 – 00:45:33:29

You know, the same thing is if I go in and and sand down a car by hand that you that’s working out. So you need to go out and do and and somehow reach out, have somebody you can reach out to that you need just just to talk and, and I would encourage everybody to find somebody that’s a mentor that you can bounce off ideas.

00:45:34:01 – 00:45:49:09

You know, it might be that I’m talking to Joel a palm. Hey, Joel, I want to do this in our business. What do you think? You know, Joel’s been doing businesses for a long time. Somebody like you. Hey, you’re a young guy. What do you see as coming up? So. Exactly. I reach out to my people.

00:45:49:09 – 00:46:04:11

I mean, being a business owner and being young. I mean, I have a lot of stuff to experience and learn, but, I mean, I’ve. I’ve got my friends that I call, I’ve got my fiancee, and, you know, there’s been several times I’m just like, I’m just done with this. I just want to go home. I want to just go to sleep or something.

00:46:04:13 – 00:46:30:09

You know? And then they’re like, just pick your head up. Keep going. You’ve got a bigger picture. There’s people relying on you. So get up, take a breath, take a walk or run or whatever. Yeah, that’s the thing is, is there’s people that, you know, people rely on you for more than just being a service provider. You know, I can’t I can’t tell you the number of times that my children have come to me.

00:46:30:12 – 00:46:55:07

And they’ve been not scared, but apprehensive about opening up to me because I’m their father and not their, you know, mother. And that that’s a that’s a mental thing, too. There’s a lot of times when, when kids don’t think that their father can be somebody they can talk to. And I’ve got, a very unique family. I’ve got two daughters that are autistic, two adult daughters that are autistic.

00:46:55:10 – 00:47:20:02

And I don’t know if you’ve ever been around somebody that’s highly functioning autistic, but they are brutally honest. They will tell you exactly what’s going on sometimes things you don’t want to hear. But but be there and listen to somebody. And even if it’s an opposite of what you believe yourself, somebody might be having a hard time with, with something that you believe is right.

00:47:20:02 – 00:47:54:06

And that’s okay. That’s their opinion. They’re entitled to that. So anyway, we’re getting yeah, we’re up on the philosophical baby. I haven’t heard anybody like line. Wow. So anyway anyway man well do we’ve really enjoyed the conversation. We’re super excited for you and the IGL team. There’s a lot of cool things going on. So how do people in your area get Ahold of you, whether they’re doing automotive coatings or they’re doing residential, they usually just stop in.

00:47:54:06 – 00:48:09:17

I mean, I get people all the time to stop in the shop. Oh, I love it. Yeah. So they, I’ll get phone calls, I get emails, I get text messages, the whole nine yards. But a lot of people just walk through the shop like, hey, Jaden, look at this. Yeah, look at this truck. What was both. I’ve got this problem with my house.

00:48:09:24 – 00:48:26:19

Can you fix it? So, usually my phone number. Facebook. That’s the biggest thing is Facebook. That’s good man. And everybody go out today and go find a training somewhere and find out about it. You know, when the when it slows down. I know a lot of times we all retract and hold on to our money and we’re like, oh no, winter’s coming.

00:48:26:19 – 00:48:52:26

I got a hold on, man. It’s a great time to take a training, improve yourself. So let’s talk about trainings coming up. Since you’re mentioning that so is coming up this week. So September 5th, sixth and seventh, we are going to be at Tate and Trout Shop in, in Fort Morgan, Colorado, Oregon, Colorado. I knew that you’re like you thought I was going to say that is about an hour outside of the roof as training center.
