Today I was inspired by a discussion with Alan Moore, the owner of Meridian Plumbing. I asked him how his business was doing since taking it over. His response, “Phenomenal, we’ve grown the business 40% in ten months”.
I asked him, “What are you doing differently?”
He responded, “We block and tackle better than anyone else. We focus on the fundamentals and it’s working”
Intrigued I asked him what fundamentals they focused on to bring about such a huge upswing in their business. Here are a few nuggets I gleaned from our discussion:
- First visit and consultation are always free. Show the customer you are invested in earning their business.
- Arrive on time!
- Come to serve and work for the customer.
- Give the customer options and explain the pros and cons of each.
- Execute on what you promise.
- Recognize you are a guest in the customer’s home. Treat their property and them accordingly.
- Say Thank You!
Amazing what kind of explosive growth you can achieve when you get to work and focus on the basics.
